Goods and Services Tax (GST) Cell

The Goods and Service Tax (GST) has been implemented in the country w.e.f. July
1, 2017. As per the directions of the Cabinet Secretary, a ‘CST Facilitation Cell’
has been created in the Ministry, to serve as the first point of contact for
addressing issues being faced by any sector related to the Ministry. It consists of
members from CS-Ill Division, Wildlife Division, Project Elephant and SU Division
as well as Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) and National Biodiversity
Authority (NBA). The Cell is headed by the Economic Adviser, MoEF&CC. It
handles the following areas of work:

  • Examining requests received regarding an increase/ decrease in applicable tax
    rates in the post-GST period, compared to the pre-GST tax regime and taking up
    the same with the GST Council.
  • Consolidating comments on representations received from various Industrial
    Associations, institutes, organizations and individual entities etc. The proposals
    are examined in the Ministry by the Divisions concerned and recommendations
    are forwarded to GST Council for their consideration.
  • To offer support/ training material for GST that may be requested from time to
    time by various stakeholders and acts as a liaison between the Ministry and GST
    Council/ Department of Revenue.
