SGP India

GEF Small Grants Program works directly with community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in recognition of the key role they play as a resource and constituency for environment and development concerns.

In India, the SGP is managed by the National Host Institution (NHI) under the guidance of the Ministry. SGP India program is operational since 1997. Development Alternatives was the first NHI. In 2000, Ministry’s Centre of Excellence, Centre for Environment Education (CEE) became the NHI. Since 2000, 314 SGP projects worth USD 8.2 million of GEF grant, leveraging USD 12.10 million of co-funding have been programmed.
